From Interstate 805 take Telegraph Canyon Road exit east to Otay Lakes Road proceed to the reservoir entrance.

Operation Hours

NOTE;  Otay will be closed to private boats from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, due to 2009 USA canoe kayak sprint team trials for the world championships.  No rental boats will be available on Saturday, April 25 & Sunday, April 26.

Lower Otay is open for fishing and boating on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule, sunrise to sunset, for shore fishing and private boats, year around thru the Iron Ranger, and  is closed on all other days.  Rental boats  are available on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Trout will be stocked by the Dept. of Fish and Game beginning in December.

Three "Iron Rangers" have been installed at Lower Otay in addition to the one that has been at Upper Otay. These will help anglers get their permits faster, but you do need exact change, so please come prepared. Iron Rangers are for purchasing fishing and boat launch permits only.Also, you cannot purchase State fishing licenses from the Iron Rangers. Thank you for your cooperation.

Watercrafts

Private boats and float tubes are permited. Rental motor and row boats are available. Kayaks are permitted Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays only.
